Determination of metformin hydrochloride in metformin glibenclamide capsules by ultraviolet spectrophotometry

OBJECTIVE: To establish a method for the determination of metformin hydrochloride in metformin glibenclamide capsules by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. METHODS: The reagent was prepared by using distilled water as a solvent to prepare a concentration of metformin of about 25 μg/mL. The distilled water was used as a blank control and the measurement was carried out at a wavelength of 234 nm. RESULTS: The concentration of metformin hydrochloride was linear in the range of 2~42μg/mL. The equation was: y=0.0718x+0.0654 (r=0.9981). The average recovery rate was low, medium and high. They are 101.51%, 101.65%, and 100.93%, respectively. (RSD% was 1.96%, 1.69%, 0.76%, n=3, respectively), the repeatability test RSD% was 0.54%, and the stability test RSD% was 0.76%. All the indicators met the requirements of national drug content determination. Conclusion: This method is accurate, rapid and simple. It can be directly applied by UV spectrophotometry without the influence of high-performance liquid phase exclusion. It provides a theoretical basis for the quality control of metformin glibenclamide compound preparation.
