According to the foreign media VentureBeat website, Google's first virtual reality (VR) product Cardboard is very interesting, because it is simple and affordable, so that many people can use it to experience virtual reality. However, the disadvantage of the low threshold is that its experience is relatively limited. However, Google Daydream, released at Google's latest annual I/O Developers Conference, offers users a much more experience than Cardboard, not just wearing a helmet to watch YouTube videos.
As explained by Clay Bavor, head of Google's virtual reality department, Daydream consists of three parts: a smartphone, a helmet and a controller, and an application. But obviously, one of the parts is especially important, that is the controller. As far as the controller is concerned, it may not be able to make Daydream a competitive threat to Oculus or Vive, but this system does allow the new system to get more input than the Cardboard.
However, this is not the only difference between Daydream and Cardboard. Daydream has a complete visual interface and a range of high-quality applications. At the same time, the ability to support in-app payments is more conducive to continuous use, giving developers a sustainable income.
So from a holistic perspective, for Google, Daydream is just an experiment or innovation to underestimate it, it is more like a platform that people can use for a long time.
Get started
Daydream is not much different from the consumer version of the Oculus Rift, which comes with a home screen that allows users to access specific applications and tools. The "find window" at the top for a specific application can produce a parallax effect that allows the image to move and then connect to specific content inside the application.
When you enter an application category, users will not see many applications to choose from, and probably only see one application at a time. According to Brahim Elbouchikhi, Google’s virtual reality product manager, “even if we have more space, we only Showing less content, this is our design." If you are interested in one of the applications, the user clicks on it to enter the corresponding immersive interface.
After entering the interface, the user will first see a panoramic photo, which can help you understand the app or game, including comments and ratings given by other users, as well as exercise intensity, screenshot examples, video presentations and specifications.
Daydream has the advantage over Cardboard. During the experience of Daydream, if there is a new message or a call, the user does not need to take off his helmet. Android N can display mobile phone calls and short messages.
