Low Power Consumption: AMD APU Series A10-7860K R7 Core Unpacking Test

I. Introduction:

AMD processors introduced a new generation of processors compatible with the previous generation of interfaces, often only need to replace a processor can make the entire computer performance is not small increase. Enhancing the experience without having to pay a big price is the main reason why I prefer to use the AMD platform.

In the already listed AMD APU series, it is only lower than the 7870K, but the TDP power consumption is lower by 1/3. Want to find a strong and power-efficient APU, A10-7860K is the best choice.

Second, buy:

AMD's new processors today mainly use AM3+ and FM2+ interfaces. The former processors do not include GPUs. To assemble a cost-effective computer for office and entertainment, the FM2+ interface is the best choice for the AMD series. As long as it is not playing large games, APU's integrated graphics are sufficient

Motherboards compatible with the FM2+ interface have also been widely distributed, often seen in the SMZDM FM2+ motherboard specials

Even if a new group of APU platform computers do not need to make a big determination

Third, out of the box:

The bottom seal is still incomplete, non-destructive extraction of Dafa still works

Unfortunately not Wraith

The original radiator is a new heat sink with 2 heat pipes, although not as luxurious as the AMD Nine Dragons 955 and 4 heat pipes, it is more than enough to suppress the TDP which is only 65W of the 7860K.

Three-year warranty guarantees service life, and you can consider replacing a processor almost three years later

Fourth, install:

Just replacing the processor does not require a big move

Removing the heat sink of the old processor will complete the change of the bottom processor. In the case of perfect wiring, no need to rearrange the wiring

After installing the new processor, you can basically say goodbye to this old card.

The original radiator of the A8-6600K can only be said to be barely enough to use. Looking at the full radiator of the A8-6600K, it did not replace it even if it did not emit much noise.

The new radiator is a lot larger than the old one, and the height is not much changed. If the old chassis is compact, it can still be used.

New heart

Fifth, test:

The test comparison is A10-7860K and A8-6600K

This asymmetrical test just hopes to be a reference for friends who want to upgrade their existing platform.

Test computer configuration:

The tests were performed under the 2K resolution of the monitor and the processor was not manually overclocked to simulate the use of general users.

Fritz Chess:

Fritz Chess is a CPU computing power test software, which has a guiding significance for the theoretical value of CPU processing power.

The A8-6600K benefited from the higher default frequency in the computational power test, leading the A10-7860K to 1.6% in the test.

However, the 1.6% default frequency calculation capability is leading at the expense of power consumption. Please refer to the sixth part of the power test.

3D MARK:

The new version of 3DMARK uses multiple scenarios to evaluate the overall CPU and GPU performance. Its test results have also been adopted by major evaluation websites.

ICE STORM tests for low-performance computers such as tablets and ultrabooks. In this test, the performance of the two processors is basically the same, and this level does not reflect the computing and graphics capabilities of the two processors.

Sky Diver will perform system tests on graphics cards that are capable of achieving a two-digit frame rate in Fire Strike with mainstream graphics cards, mobile GPUs, etc.

Two processors in the project opened the gap. The score of A10-7860K is 1.7 times that of A8-6600K. The difference is not a half point.

Cloud Gate is suitable for graphics cards that do not support DirectX11. The old GTX260 graphics card is one of them.

In the test, the final score of A10 is between A8-6600K+ and A8-6600k+ alone GTX260. It seems that the performance of A10-7860K is not as good as the old discrete graphics but it can already be compared with the new entry level. It was a war. AMD integrates entry-level performance graphics cards into the APU, which is also a blow to its entry-level graphics cards. If you purchase this APU, then the significance of entry-level graphics will only be the exchange of fire with the APU.

Fire Strike scenes are generally used to test high-performance computer hardware. In this scenario, the A10-7860 scores 1330, which is a 163% performance of the A8-6600K.

Master Lu:

In many test softwares, Lu has been deeply loved by some computer users for its convenient and diverse function integration. Its test scores are also used as a comparison. After all, not everyone has a few hours of conversation to install a 3D Mark for testing, but it is very convenient to install a dozen MB of Master Lu.

Master Lu's score is basically consistent with the results of the previous 3D mark test.

Sixth, power consumption:

Leaving power consumption to talk about performance is all about rogues. If we finally use the A10-7860K to achieve higher power consumption as a result of the above-mentioned performance results, there is really no comparability. After all, the A10 is higher than the A8 regardless of its positioning or selling price. The actual situation?

Above the picture is A8-6600K power consumption, standby power consumption is 77.74W floating up and down, CPU / GPU full load power is 127.56W floating up and down.

The lower two are A10-7860K power consumption, the standby is only 47.09W floating, and the CPU/GPU full-load power consumption is 99.36W floating.

Thanks to the 28nm process technology and the lower default frequency, power consumption is much less than A8-6600K at full load and no load.

The power consumption of a normal browsing webpage is about 70W, and the power consumption during a game is about 90W. (CPU may not be fully loaded during the game)

Compare the power consumption of A8-6600K and GTX260 before upgrading...

Seven: radiator

The A10-7860K will upgrade the original radiator to a dual heat pipe version, but unfortunately it is not Wraith. So how about its thermal performance?

The system stability test was used during the test to load the CPU and GPU, the room temperature was approximately 13 degrees, and the final temperature was recorded after 20 minutes. (poor electricity consumption does not work)

A10-7870K comes with a heat sink

A10-7870K + original radiator, CPU temperature from 3 minutes to stabilize at 26 degrees. It seems that the original radiator has been fully satisfied with the cooling requirements of the 7870K without overclocking.

A8-6600K comes with a heatsink

As a comparison, the thermal performance of the A8-6600K and A8-6600K original heat sinks was also tested. Throughout the test, the temperature climbed until the CPU started to down-protect. Smaller power consumption and better performance: AMD APU series A10-7860K quad-core R7 nuclear new products out of the box is really ... ... this room temperature 13 degrees ah ... ...

A8-6600K with A10-7860K comes with a radiator

So in the end is the radiator even more power, or is the processor TDP power consumption to reduce the reasons for the temperature control in a reasonable range? After replacing the heatsink with a new 7560K heatsink, the temperature was controlled at 42 degrees. It seems that the temperature of the copy machine can be controlled at 26 degrees, not only the reason of the heat sink, but also the contribution of the 7860K's own power control.

Eight: Summary

From the comparison with the A8-6600K, it is easy to see that the GPU of the A10-7860K is a new processor with a balance between performance and power consumption. Just because of the reduction of the default frequency, the CPU performance does not change much. But the lower default frequency also gives greater potential for overclocking.

The new A10-7860K will control power consumption at 65W TDP. Whether it is office or game, its own heatsink has already been able to control the processor temperature very well without having to spend extra to buy a heatsink.

After experiencing this processor for a few days, it feels that its built-in graphics performance can completely drag a 2K resolution screen, which can keep the system smooth in heavy office work and web pages. While the previous A8-6600K can also provide 2K resolution output, but as long as the page is opened a little more can obviously feel the drop frame.

Based on the above test and multi-day experience, it is recommended for players who build HTPC platforms and micro-hosts. I believe that the price and performance of this processor will not disappoint you.

This test regrets that there is no higher-frequency memory to support the A10-7860K operation, and the A10-7860K supports DDR3-2133 at the most. In this frequency memory support, the set performance is better.
