The weather is getting colder, and the enthusiasm of the little ones for the drones is not diminished. How to "slow" in the cold winter, and the use of winter drones, so I have the following article.
What are the problems with winter flights?
1. The battery activity is reduced and the flight time is shortened;
2. The handling of the flying hand will decrease. Hands without gloves will affect the flexibility of the fingers because of low temperature, and can not keep up with the response of each rudder in time; wearing gloves will affect the feel;
3. The electronic equipment of the flight control may not work properly;
4. The plastic parts of the frame may become brittle and the strength is reduced.
Start with the most important ones:
battery
Flying UAVs in the winter, how can we guarantee that our smart flying battery can work normally as a flying hand?
Let's talk about it first: We know that there are often low-temperature weather in the north or high altitude, and it will still be cold in the winter in the south. If the battery is placed outside for a long time, its discharge performance will be greatly reduced. When flying at a flight time in a normal temperature state, there must be a problem. At this time, we should do it to raise the alarm voltage (such as the single-chip alarm voltage to 3.8V). So as the APP used by DJI customers, we can set the low battery alarm to 50% because of the pressure drop in low temperature environment. It will be very fast, and the alarm will land immediately. In addition, the battery should be insulated. Before the take-off, the battery should be stored in a warm environment, such as inside a house, inside a car, or in an incubator. Quickly install the battery when taking off and perform the mission. Try to shorten the time to half of the normal temperature when flying at low temperatures to ensure safe flight.
Winter battery use temperature
A: The recommended operating temperature of the battery is 20 degrees or more and 40 degrees or less. In extreme cases, ensure that the battery temperature is above 5 degrees, otherwise it will have a great impact on battery life, but intercontinental navigation in December this year. ° Successful test flight succeeded in sleet weather, so the weather around 0° is not impossible to fly.
How to keep warm?
1. Allow the battery temperature to reach room temperature in a heated room (5 degrees -20 degrees)
2. Turn on the aircraft without heating, until the battery temperature rises above 5 degrees (to prevent accidents, remember not to install the propeller indoors)
3. Turn on the air conditioner in the car to raise the battery temperature to 5 degrees or more, and 20 degrees is the best.
Are there any other things to note?
A: The operating temperature of the aircraft battery must be above 5 degrees and 20 degrees before the motor is unlocked. Once the flying battery temperature reaches between 5 and 20 degrees, it needs to fly immediately and cannot be idle. Once the temperature drops, the pre-heating of the battery is equivalent to white. As for what to shoot, you can conceive when the battery is warming up.
Winter flight should not be greedy, the biggest safety hazard of the aircraft is not the plane but the flying hand itself. Adventure flights, low-power flights are dangerous. Winter flight ensures that the battery is fully charged before each takeoff.
Will winter flight time be shorter than other seasons?
A: Yes, it will probably shorten the time by about 40%. Therefore, the winter flight is recommended to return to the ground when it is 60%. The more remaining power is returned, the safer it is.
Q: How to store winter batteries?
A: Insulation, dry storage space.
Q: Is there any stress in winter charging?
A: The winter charging environment is best at around 20 degrees. Never charge the battery in a low temperature environment
Flight control electronics may not work properly
Flight control is the control core of an aircraft, and it must not go wrong. There are a lot of flying friends who have problems in extremely cold places, so the aircraft needs to be preheated before taking off at low temperature. The preheating method is consistent with the battery preheating method.
The plastic parts of the frame may become brittle and the strength is reduced
Plastic parts on the aircraft become very fragile at low temperatures, so do not fly in this environment. It must be stable when landing, reducing impact.
other questions
The aircraft needs to be dehumidified after the flight, and sometimes it will freeze.
Our treatment is to use a better texture of the napkin to absorb moisture, and always observe to prevent liquid from entering the interior of the aircraft.
Sum up it: three big points
First, preheating to more than 5 degrees before takeoff, 20 degrees is best.
Second, do not fly in a large attitude during flight, control the flight time, ensure that the power is fully charged before each takeoff, and the remaining power is kept at 50%.
Third, the dehumidification maintenance of the descending aircraft, storage and attention to the place of dry insulation is the best environment, do not charge in low temperature environment.
Pay attention to these important issues, and be able to fly happily in the cold winter!
