China's LED lighting scale and basic analysis

As the world's most populous and fastest-growing country, China's LED lighting applications have a huge market potential. The demand for lighting in China is huge. In 2012, the domestic market demand for incandescent lamps and energy-saving lamps reached 1.176 billion and 1.269 billion respectively. The compound annual growth rate for 2007-2012 reached 7.59%, and the market demand for direct fluorescent lamps was 830 million. The market demand for circular fluorescent lamps is 800 million, and the market demand for tungsten halogen lamps is 755 million. These traditional lighting sources and lamps are the target replacement markets for LED lighting fixtures. With the improvement of the cost performance, LED lighting fixtures will gradually enter these market areas, bringing huge market development space for them.

China's lighting industry has a solid foundation and is the world's largest producer of lighting sources and lamps. According to the statistics of the China Lighting Association, in 2012, the country produced 3.8 billion incandescent lamps and 6.69 billion fluorescent lamps, including 1.83 billion straight fluorescent lamps, 1.8 billion ring fluorescent lamps, and 4.43 billion CFL lamps. In 2012, the country produced 174 million HID lamps, of which 56 million high-pressure mercury lamps, 54 million high-pressure sodium lamps, and 63 million metal halide lamps.

At the same time, the consumption of lighting fixtures in China is mainly provided by domestic manufacturers. The share of imported products in China is less than 5%, and nearly 70% of domestic production is exported.
