Global optical transceivers will exceed $3 billion in 2011

LightCounting released the latest forecast report, the latest data of sales in the fourth quarter of 2010 showed that sales of multiple suppliers exceeded expectations, and global optical transceiver sales increased by 35% during the quarter. LightCounting predicts that global optical transceiver sales will grow by 10% in 2011, exceeding US$3 billion.

“Despite the slow start of the market in 2011, the optical communications industry has grown steadily overall,” said Vladimir Kozlov, CEO and founder of LightCounting. Optical fiber connectivity has become a key method for more extensive network transmissions, including data centers, enterprise networks, metropolitan networks, remote networks, and some infrastructure deployments, and even wireless data transmission. The transition of this technology will drive the growth of many emerging industries in the future.

As the deployment of 3G wireless networks continues to advance, the sales of fiber transceivers used in wireless infrastructure systems more than doubled in 2010. The higher data rates required for LTE network plans during 2011-2012 are more dependent on optical products. In addition to traditional optical backhaul, this market currently includes short-distance fiber connections between the antenna tower and the base station.
