Cypress Semiconductor Corp. today announced that MSi has selected Cypress's PowerPSoC power controller for integration into its revolutionary new iPAR-38 LED replacement bulb. The new bulbs leverage PowerPoC's programmability and flexibility to provide unique features including adjustable power levels, communication capabilities, and the ability to dim almost any existing dimming system.
The MSi iPAR-38 is UL and CSA certified, with 10 degree spotlights at 2700K and 3000K color temperature, 16 degree color mixing lights and 22.5 degree floodlights. Its unique Powerband technology can be used to boost power as needed or to save energy between 10, 12 and 16 watts. The iPAR-38 LED bulbs are designed for voltages ranging from 85 to 265 volts, allowing them to be installed in any country in the world. In addition, MSi's unique intelligent communication system allows the bulb to transmit information such as manufacturing, installation, elapsed time, voltage settings, etc. to a handheld remote control device in a complex electronic lightwave mode. This feature is especially important due to the extremely long life of the lamp, and it also plays an important role in overall energy assessment, maintenance and design.
The PowerPSoC family integrates one to four constant current regulators and 32V/1A MOSFETs in Cypress's PSoCTM programmable system-on-chip with a microcontroller, programmable analog and digital blocks, and memory. This unprecedented level of integration allows users to create high-quality LED-based lighting products on a single chip, and is also widely used in other applications such as white goods and industrial applications.
