Currently, there are about 40 countries around the world that are engaged in the development and production of sensors. There are more than 5,000 R&D and production units and over 20,000 products. There are 1,688 enterprises in the country engaged in the development, production and application of sensors, of which more than 50 are engaged in the development and production of MEMS, but the scale and application areas are small.

Because there is no large-scale application, domestic sensor products generally have the contradiction of low technology level and high price. In the international market, companies in old industrial countries such as Germany, Japan, the United States, and Russia have dominated the sensor market. Many manufacturers have achieved large-scale production. Some companies have an annual production capacity of tens of millions or even hundreds of millions. In contrast, the application range of China's sensors is narrow, and more applications still remain in basic application areas such as industrial measurement and control. Relying on this, the Chinese sensor market is very competitive.

The Chinese sensor market has continued to grow in recent years, with growth rates exceeding 15%. In 2012, the four major areas of China's sensor applications were industrial and automotive electronic products, communications and electronic products, and consumer electronics products. Among them, industrial and automotive electronic products accounted for about 42% of the market share. The market size reached 16 billion yuan, and the entire sensor market broke through. 500 billion yuan.

The industry market institutions pointed out that from the perspective of the entire sensor field, although the technology is stable, the threshold is very low. The direction of the future can only be sophisticated. The development of the Internet of Things will greatly promote the development of the sensor field, which will have great applications in the fields of energy, intellisense, security monitoring, and environmental protection. It is estimated that by 2020, the scale of the entire industry will reach more than 60 billion yuan, and the localization rate will reach over 70%.
