TRINAMIC Introduces Discrete MOSFET Chips

TRINAMIC, a supplier of stepper motors and motion controls, is a world leader in the industry and has introduced a series of discrete MOSFET integrated circuit chips. This series is a complementary product specially designed for TRINAMIC's popular motor drive and pre-driver chips. The full-bridge/half-bridge MOSFET package is ideal for stepper motors with drive coil current peaks between 2.5A and 5.5A and voltages between 30V and 60V.

TRINAMIC's new MOSFETs product line, coupled with the popular TMC262 stepper motor driver chip, perfectly matches motors with sizes between NEMA 24 and 34, typically delivering 1.1 to 4.4 ft.-lbs. of torque. The MOSFET series and pre-driver chips have been carefully designed to achieve minimal power consumption and heat consumption, providing the designer with the most compact PCB design.

TRINAMIC's discrete MOSFETs use CMOS technology to conduct internal resistance RDS between 40 and 70 milliohms, while typical conduction resistances RDS using BCDMOS integrated MOSFETs are between 200 and 600 milliohms. Therefore, the integrated driver/MOSFET combination is only suitable for relatively low current ranges, while the discrete MOSFET motor driver chip can support higher voltage/current combinations.

Discrete MOSFETs have excellent on-resistance internal resistance (RDS) performance, achieving higher energy efficiency and lower heat loss. By dividing the motor pre-driver and power MOSFET bridge into two discrete devices, engineers have the flexibility to design board layouts to meet space constraints and power consumption requirements. TRINAMIC also provides designers with several proven PCB layouts to reduce board size and heat consumption.

TRINAMIC's MOSFET products are sold in conjunction with motor drive chips, including the TMC262 pre-driver chip and two full-bridge and four half-bridge MOSFET chips.

The TMC1340 is a full-bridge MOSFET chip rated 3.0/4.2A (rms/peak) in a 5x6mm SO8 package at 30V supply. A complete motor drive kit, including the TMC262 pre-driver chip and two full-bridge MOSFET chips, is priced at $3.17/10k.

The TMC1320 is a half-bridge MOSFET rated 3.0/4.2A (rms/peak) in a 3x3mm PQFN package at 30V. Complete motor drive kits, including the TMC262 pre-driver chip and four half-bridge MOSFET chips, are priced at $3.20/10k.

The TMC1420 is a half-bridge MOSFET that is rated at 3.5V (rms/peak) at 40V and is packaged in a 5x6mm PQFN package. A complete motor-driven kit, including the TMC262 pre-driver chip and four half-bridge MOSFET chips, is priced at $3.56/10k.

The TMC1620 is a half-bridge MOSFET rated 3.5/5.0A (rms/peak) at 60V and packaged in a 6.5x10mm TO-252-4L package. A complete motor drive kit, including the TMC262 pre-driver chip and four half-bridge MOSFET chips, is priced at $3.75/10k.
