At the GDC (Game Developers Conference) two years ago, Sony first introduced the PlayStation VR (PS VR) project to the outside world. At that time, the project code was Project Morpheus.
Two years later, Sony announced the price of the PS VR consumer version at GDC 2016 - 399 US dollars (about 2600 yuan), 44980 yen, 399 euros and 349 pounds.
PS VR plans to ship in October 2016 and details of the Asian sales will be announced separately.
In the VR field, PS VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift are three pillars. The Oculus Rift was first booked for $599 and does not include the Oculus Touch controller.
HTC Vive then opened the booking on February 29, which was priced at US$799. The domestic price was RMB 6,888 and included the Vive controller. Both need to be paired with a powerful, high-priced PC.
Compared to the prices of the first two, the Sony PS VR 399 is priced at a relatively good price, and can be directly run on the PS4. The price of a PS4 is around US$300, and its current global holding has exceeded 36 million.
In terms of content, there are currently more than 230 developers and distributors in the world that are developing more than 160 games for PS VR, of which more than 50 games are planned to be launched this year.
It is reported that DICE and Lucasfilm are preparing a Star Wars: Battlefront, a Star Wars VR game exclusively for PS VR.
