Japan’s Asahi Shimbun reported that Sharp and Intel will reach a capital injection agreement close to 30 billion to 40 billion yen. Japan's "Yomiuri Shimbun" reported that Intel may purchase Sharp's 30 billion yen convertible bonds, and Intel has teamed up with Sharp to develop digital products using Intel microprocessors.
"Yomiuri Shimbun" said that the goal of the two companies is to reach an agreement before the end of the month, the total amount of capital injection may be less. According to the market value of Sharp's 168.8 billion yen at the close of November 13, an investment of 30 billion yen may give Intel a potential share of more than 17%. The report said that Sharp is still seeking investment from US companies such as the communications group Qualcomm.
The Japan News Agency said that Sharp will receive a total of 24 billion yen from Intel and Qualcomm. The report said that Taiwan’s Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., which produces Apple equipment in China, is expected to be put on hold, but Sharp will continue to negotiate with the Taiwanese partner.
