Summary:
The TPS56121 is a high efficiency, high current synchronous buck converter operating between 4.5 V and 14 V. The device can generate output voltages as low as 0.6 V at loads up to 15 A. The integrated NexFET power MOSFET offers the benefits of miniaturization and ease of use.
The device implements voltage mode control through voltage feedforward compensation, which responds as the input voltage changes.
The TPS56121 is available in a thermally enhanced 22-pin PQFN (DQP) PowerPAD package.
The device supports a high degree of design flexibility and offers a variety of user-programmable features including soft-start, overcurrent protection (OCP) levels, and loop compensation. The OCP stage can be programmed with a single external resistor connected to the circuit ground by the ILIM pin. During the initial power-up sequencing, the device enters the calibration phase, measures the ILIM pin voltage, and sets the internal l OCP voltage level. In operation, it is possible to determine whether an overcurrent condition is caused by comparing the programmable OCP voltage level with the voltage drop across the low side FET at power-on. It can then go into the shutdown/restart phase after the fault has been eliminated.
