The Podoon pressure-sensitive smart insole is made of EVA material and is embedded with a 0.2 mm thick flexible film pressure sensor for collecting runners' running data, which is then received on a smartphone or smart watch, via a display or via voice notification. The nRF51422 SoC device integrates a 32-bit ARM® CortexTM M0 microcontroller, 2.4GHz radio, 256kB/128kB flash, and 32kB/16kB RAM on a single chip. This powerful, highly flexible, multi-protocol device ensures simultaneous interoperability between the Podoon pressure-sensitive smart insole and iOS and Android phones, as well as ANT+ or Bluetooth 4.0 (or newer) sports watches such as Garmin devices.
The Podoon pressure-sensitive smart insole is powered by a CR2032 coin cell battery. The battery life depends on the duration and frequency of the run and the number of devices connected at a time. In the usual "sport mode" operation, the battery provides 18 months of power and is used in standby mode for up to three years.
