Ams introduces the world's smallest ambient light sensor for thinner, next-generation wearable products

Photocoupler

Leading high performance analog IC and the sensor supplier today ams Release ambient light sensor TSL2584TSV, using TSVs, the package size is only 1.145 x 1.66mm, a height of 0.32mm.

In display management applications, ambient light sensors are used to automatically control the brightness of the backlight to extend battery life while ensuring an optimal user experience. The new TSL2584TSV is the world's smallest ambient light sensor , and is almost half the size of other branded ambient light sensors.

Ams leverages its proprietary wafer process technology to make advanced TSV packaging technology part of its portfolio of optical sensors. TSV packaging technology can effectively improve product performance, it does not require wire bonding, and the device I/O port is directly connected to the solder ball. TSV packaging technology enables the device to pass the humidity sensitivity level standard evaluation, improve its performance in the temperature and humidity cycle test, and greatly reduce the resistance corrosion rate, effectively improving the reliability of the device.

The TSL2584TSV's photopic response allows it to accurately measure light intensity even behind dark glass. Advanced wafer processing technology and precision-mounted interference filters help achieve superior performance in ambient light sensors. By filtering out the excess infrared light, the sensor will be able to measure ambient light more accurately, resulting in a photopic response.

David Moon ams senior marketing manager for advanced optical solutions business unit, said: "With the introduction of the world's smallest ambient light sensors, ams help smart watches, sports wristbands and other wearable device designers to easily integrate ambient light sensor to the most frivolous In the backlit display, the ultra-small TSL2584TSV also brings more flexibility to the design of smartphones and tablets. The TSL2584TSV occupies less than 2 mm2 and is only 0.32mm high, an important milestone in the development of ambient light sensor solutions. Will provide new solutions for display management in space-constrained designs."

The TSL2584TSV is now in volume production and its evaluation board is available on the ams website. For sample and technical information, please visit
